Early Life

Gilbert Burns was born on 20 July 1986 in Niterói, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  His father’s name is Herbert Sr. and his mother’s name is Tania. Gilbert is the second child among the three. He has a younger brother who competes in the Featherweight division of UFC. Although he is a Brazilian national, Gilbert’s family heritage comes from Portuguese and African origins. His father had a Garage in Rio.

Gilbert was battling a pulmonary disease when he was only six months old. He had to take vaccine very month. His doctor suggested his father take him to swimming school for better cardio health. The problem went away after some time.
