Regardless of the circumstances, India has always been the top contender and favorite to win the ICC tournament. But that’s not the case this time for the fan-favorite team.
Team India hasn’t won a major tournament in recent years despite having world-class players in the squad. The last time they won any major trophy was in 2013 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
They are the powerhouse in the cricketing world. But in recent years, India has faced a downfall in its regime.
India also failed to go past the group stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup and has choked under pressure in eight ICC tournaments losing two finals in between.
So, today this article will be based on :
Reasons Why India Won’t Win T20 World Cup 2022
Lack of a Left-hander in the squad
Left-handed players always have a unique persona in cricket either be, bowlers or batsmen. Most of the world’s greatest players have been left-handers such as; Brian Lara, Wasim Akram, Mathew Hayden, Yubraj Singh, and so on.
In the case of team India, they have always had fewer left-handers in their squad which may be a major flaw for them in this T20 World Cup.
Due to the lack of a left-handed batsman, India might suffer in the world cup because most of the teams have left-arm bowlers. Left-arm bowlers have an advantage over right-handed batsmen as a ball will swings away from the batter and more likely produce an edge that can be caught by the slip fielders.
No Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja
Indian team has suffered a major blow after their main bowler Jasprit Bumrah suffered a big injury and will miss the T20 World Cup. As India is solely dependent on Bumrah magic in the bowling department. There are no other bowlers as experienced as him in the squad.
This was the second injury blow after Ravindra Jadeja was also ruled out for a knee injury, he has been a crucial player with both the ball and bat for team India.
The lack of these two players might be the reason won’t be able to perform in the ongoing world cup.
Issues in the Fielding department
India has a poor fielding department as compared to other teams which might be another reason they might not win this World Cup.

Except for two-three players, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya other players aren’t good at fielding, and dropping the catches at a crucial moment might cost the world cup for them.
Top-order Batsman dependency
Team India has always produced great top-order batsmen like; Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Sourav Ganguly, and so on.
But their dependency on the top-order batsmen might not be enough for them. In case, if top-order batsmen; Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Surya Kumar Yadav fail to score runs then a lower-order batsman must step up for the game.
Otherwise, low runs on the board might not be enough to defend the match for the bowlers and India might collapse from the tournament like every now and then.
Death bowling Issues
Death bowling has been the major issue for team India after the injury of key players. India has conceded 371 runs in 28.1 overs since the Asia Cup which is 11.28 runs per over at the death.
This shows the lack of quality bowler depth in the death overs and might be a concerning issue during the world cup.
Lack of wicket-taking spinners
Indian team bowling is a worry to be concerned about after the off-color performance of team lead spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. He hasn’t been able to take wickets and gives mammoth runs in the middle over.
Except for Axar Patel, every other spinner has conceded runs more than 10 per over without taking wickets.
Although veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is back on the team after a long time, but can he perform at the level he used to in the past?
Too many newcomers for Australian conditions
Most of the players selected for the 2022 T20 World Cup have been young guns. These players may perform on home soil, but lack of experience in foreign conditions might be an issue for the team. Adapting to the new pitch condition is one thing but performing at the top level is a different thing.
The pitches in Australia provide seam movement and extra bounce to the new bowlers. Meanwhile, the Indian players are not familiar with extra bounce and alien conditions. this can act as a pitfall for the young team.
Lack of experience in larger boundaries
The Australian grounds are huge and have boundaries of 80+m whereas in India almost all the boundaries are 70m. Players in the Indian team aren’t big hitters except for a few players and might get caught out in the boundary under the pressure of scoring the runs.

The six hitters in the Indian team are limited to one or two players besides all of them are accumulators which can create a big issue in a huge run-chase. The likes of Hardik, Karthik, and Rohit will have to do the bulk of scoring half a dozen runs on maximum occasions.
Poor record in the T20 format
Despite being the first team to win the first T20 championship, India’s record has been very poor in the shorter format of the game. They have not been able to reach the final since losing one in 2014 against Sri Lanka.
Since India produces so many world-class players every year through the Indian Premier League, a lack of stability in the playing XI due to the constant shuffle of players might be the reason to underperform in the tournament.
